The American Red Cross Mission

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, and guided by its Congressional Charter and the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross movement will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

The Wyoming Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross had its beginning in 1914 when a group of residents started the Red Cross Society. Two years later, they were chartered by the American Red Cross under the title of the Wilkes-Barre Chapter. But it was not until the next year, that the chapter name was changed to the Wyoming Valley Chapter to better represent the community which we serve.
