HIV Prevention
The Prevention Education Department at the American Red Cross
Wyoming Valley Chapter provides Prevention Education in a six county
area throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Through its educational programs the Prevention Department educates
people how to reduce the transmission of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and
other Sexually Transmitted Infections. Intervention Programs educate
how to apply facts about HIV to high risk behaviors thereby reducing
risk.
The Department also offers Free Prevention Supplies, and Free HIV
Testing using the Ora-Sure Oral Swab Test. The Ora-Sure Test results
are 99% accurate. The
American Red Cross also offers Free Mobile Testing.
Testing is Available Monday-Friday from
8am-4pm.
Testing can be done by Walk-In or Appointment and is completely
private, confidential and anonymous.

HIV Facts
HIV can be passed through blood, semen, vaginal fluid, and breast
milk
HIV can be passed during vaginal, anal, and oral sex.
HIV can be passed while sharing needles and works to inject drugs.
HIV can be passed by needles used for tattoos and piercing or to
inject vitamins or steroids
HIV can be passed from an infected mother to her baby during birth
or breast feeding.
It is not possible to tell whether a person has HIV by the way they
look or how healthy they are. The only way to know is to be tested.
