Other Ways to Donate

You can help the victims of thousands of disasters locally, nationally and internationally everyday by making a financial gift to one of the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Funds. These Funds enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of disasters.

In addition, you can support the everyday work of the Wyoming Valley Chapter in the area of health and safety training, military assistance and disaster education with a general donation.

The American Red Cross honors donor intent. If you wish to designate your donation to a specific disaster or program, please do so at the time of your donation.

Thank you for supporting the work of the American Red Cross in your community and beyond.

Donate Stocks

Many individuals enjoy significant gains in their stock and other investment portfolios. If you own stocks, bonds or mutual funds that have appreciated in value, you have a unique opportunity to realize extra tax savings by making an outright gift.

For more information, contact Joanna Springer, Regional Development Coordinator.

Bequest

You can name the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross as a beneficiary in your will. By naming a charity in your will, you control your assets during your lifetime and can reduce the death tax on your estate.

For more information, contact Joanna Springer, Regional Development Coordinator.

Charitable Lead Trust

You can create a trust so that income is provided annually, from cash or investments to benefit the Wyoming Valley Chaapter of the American Red Cross for whatever number of years you desire. When the trust's term expires, the assets revert back to you. With a charitable lead trust, you have the benefits of ownership and tax deduction.

For more information, contact Joanna Springer, Regional Development Coordinator.

Gifts of Life Insurance and Retirement Plans

Life insurance planning helps to protect our family in case of an early death. If you purchased life insurance that is no longer necessary for its original purpose, please consider donating the policy to the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the Red Cross. You may claim a charitable income tax deduction for the approximate cash surrender value of the policy, and the proceeds are removed from your estate. There are additional ways to give life insurance that can be explored if you are interested.

Through consistent saving and creative investing, many today have amassed a small fortune in retirement accounts that has evolved into a tax dilemma. If you have over-funded your qualified retirement plan such as an IRA, 401(K) or Keogh Plan, gifts from these plans either directly or through a trust created in your will can help reduce your taxable estate while supporting the work of the Red Cross either now or in the future.

For more information, contact Joanna Springer, Regional Development Coordinator.

Leaving a Red Cross Legacy

Every year, we are fortunate to have many people generously decide to designate the Wyoming Valley Chapter as a gift recipient as part of their estate plan.  This act of generosity and thoughtfulness ensures that the Red Cross can continue in its mission to help the local community when there is a fire, flood, tornado or other disaster.

For more information on how you can leave a Red Cross Legacy, contact Joanna Springer, Regional Development Coordinator.

Corporate Giving

The Red Cross is in your community everyday providing life-saving training and disaster education as well as assisting your neighbors after a personal tragedy. Many corporations have joined with the American Red Cross to reach out in a personal way and provide education, training and assistance before, during and after a disaster.

There is no better way to demonstrate your commitment to your community than by lending a helping hand when people need it most or by connecting with your local Red Cross through a financial contribution.  The Dallas Area Chapter has several opportunities for corporations to become involved in our life-saving mission.

For more information on corporate giving contact Joanne Schloss.

In-Kind Gifts

Unsolicited, spontaneous donations of goods and services, though well intentioned, have hidden costs and pose a number of complications for relief efforts.

For these reasons, the Red Cross is unable to accept any large collections of items, such as used clothing, hygiene items, furniture, toys and canned goods. Nor are we able to accept small, individual donations of these items. Unfortunately, the Red Cross does not have the resources to process these types of donations properly.

Instead, the Red Cross, in partnership with other agencies, suggests the best use for these types of donations is to support other agencies in our community.

The Red Cross will sometimes accept bulk donations of products that are immediately needed on an ongoing disaster relief operation. "Bulk donations" refers to large donations of a single product. Because the quantities required on relief operations are significant, these donations are typically provided by companies that manufacture or distribute the product needed, and have the resources to ship it directly to the disaster site. If your company has a large bulk donation that you think would be appropriate for Red Cross relief efforts, please contact Amy George.
